About Tom

Tom Burroughs is your candidate for Mayor/CEO of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, KS. Burroughs has served as Commissioner, At-Large for two terms. Burroughs offers extensive experience and knowledge in both economic and policy development, finance and community relations. In his role as Commissioner, At-Large, Burroughs has proven his lifelong commitment to supporting continued economic growth and investment, lowering property taxes and advocating for budgets and policy that promote fiscal stability and growth while eliminating waste and inefficiencies. 

Burroughs sponsored and supported many of these policies during his 26 year tenure in the Kansas Legislature. In addition to serving in the legislature and as a city commissioner simultaneously, Burroughs kept the voice of Wyandotte County alive in the state house. Tom’s pride and voice in Wyandotte county has consistently been at the forefront of his decision making.  

Burroughs implemented numerous growth opportunities for Wyandotte County, and additionally worked extensively to bring the Kansas Motor Speedway and Village West to Wyandotte County. Burroughs spearheaded investment in our KBI crime lab and was successful in attaining financial and legislative support for public safety in our community.

Burroughs retired from Colgate Palmolive Company in 2006 after 28 years of service. Burroughs is active  on multiple boards throughout our region including, but not limited to, WYDEC (Wyandotte Economic Development Council) KCATA (Kansas City Area Transportation Authority), Mid-America Regional Council and is a proud recipient of numerous community service awards.

Burroughs brings extensive experience to the mayoral position. Having served as Mayor Pro Tem, Burroughs has repeatedly demonstrated his commitment and transparent decision making to the residents of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, KS. 

Tom has been married to Cathie for 44 years. They have three grown children and three grandchildren.
